| The design technology behind Shape Ups changes the way you walk. As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back. People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most, and don’t gain the benefits that come with all that activity. The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet--regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back. Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps. Barefoot walking simulation on soft ground -
The heel sinks comfortably into the soft ground as you step -
You naturally roll forward as your weight shifts to the center and your balance is centered -
Easily push off with your toe pads Due to this unconventional manner of walking, we suggest you moderate your walking routine in Shape Ups for the first week or two (25 to 45 minutes per day), depending on your level of fitness. As you continue to wear your Shape Ups, your body will adjust to this new method of walking. You will find it easy and comfortable while still enjoying the strengthening and cardiovascular benefits. Get in the Routine 1. Kick Back: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight onto the back of the soft foam heel – hold for a count of five and then back to the center. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings. Repeat 5 to 10 times. 2. Rock and Roll: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight forward so you are balancing on the underside of your toes – hold for a count of two, then slowly rock back to the soft heel – hold for a count of two, and then back to your center of balance. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings, warms up Achilles and ankles. Repeat 5 to 10 times. 3. Roll and Rock and Roll: Follow the Rock and Roll stretch, but alternate feet so one is rolling to the toes and one is rocking back. Repeat 5 to 6 times. 4. The Lean: Place your hands on a wall, parallel and slightly above your head. With one leg in front of the other and your arms forward, press with your palms as if you were leaning on the wall. Keep your back leg straight and your front foot on the floor, then bend the front leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold for a count of five, then repeat on the other side. Stretches calf and Achilles. Repeat 5 to 6 times. What's Inside Shape Ups? -

Not the best... July 13, 2010 Stephanie Schulthies These shoes are very over priced and not very durable. If your a tall girl like me at 5'11 the last thing you want is to add another 2-3 inches... If anyone is interested in these shoes because they have a knee injury or have to stand a lot at work I recomend buying a pair of reasonable priced shoes and then putting doctor sholls inserts in them like I ended up doing. Oh and don't even consider running in these shoes you will brake your neck
Too Small and Toes Numb July 10, 2010 T. Wolcott (Roseville, CA) The advertisement for these shoes said "true to size", so I ordered a size 5. I quit wearing them after about 2 weeks; I couldn't take the numbing in my toes any longer. A friend suggested the numbing was due to the shoes being too small. I ordered a size 5.5 and a size 6. The size 6 fit better, but the numbing continued. I've never had this problem w/other sneaker or athetic shoes. Also, I noticed that my feet pronated in these shoes. They're going back in the morning.
skechers shape ups July 4, 2010 HB bought these for my 72yr . old mother _ she LOVES them! No more back pain, hip pain.... She wears them all the time!!!!
Not at all what I expected... July 1, 2010 L. Gonzalez I researched long and hard before splurging the money on these sneakers. They do have many positive reviews. I even went so far as buying the "generic" version by LA Gear. (Those were like walking on a brick). I am overweight with a very busy schedule and no time to exercise and I thought it'd be a good way to get some toning while I do my day to day activities. I noticed once before I bought them a lady wearing them at the mall, and she was like twisting her ankles in and out with every step, almost like sideways back and forth. That should have been my first clue these shoes stunk, but I disregarded it in my desperate hope to lose weight.
These shoes do cause you to over-pronate, as the other reviewers stated. Which in turn causes knee pain. I have a back injury from an epidural I received and these shoes really flare it up. I really wouldn't suggest these shoes to people with either back or knee injuries, or to those with weak ankles. They are also bulky so if you're clumsy you may fall or twist an ankle (as I did). Also,I find it awkward to drive with them on, since they're oddly shaped it causes me to hit the gas and brake pedals in a different way. If you like to half walk/ half jog for your exercise, think again, as you cannot jog or run in these. Skechers came out with these Skechers Women's Shape-Ups XF-Accelerators Lace-Up for that to suck the rest of your wallet dry.
That isn't even the worst of it, I haven't felt one ounce of improvement, no soreness in my muscles, no added shape to my calves or thighs, and surely no weight-loss. I feel like I bought into the hype and got suckered. I'm glad these shoes worked well for some folks, but I feel like I got ripped off and I have no one to blame but myself. I'm sure many people will knock this review but I am just being honest about my experience with these sneakers, including feeling stupid for allowing myself to buy into the hype. They are soft and cushion-y, I do give them that. But after 3 months of use, no "fitness" improvement AT ALL. I will be selling them on that auction site soon while I cant still get my money back for them.
Love them! June 23, 2010 B. Gasper I've been wearing these for about 2 1/2 weeks now walking 5-6 days a week. The first few times I wore them I noticed my lower back felt sore but it was the muscles in my back and not my spine. Wearing these shoes works your back muscles as well as your legs... who knew? Anyway, by day 3 or so my muscles got used to the new way of walking and I've been going strong since. Every other shoe I tried made my feet hurt by mile 2, but I can walk almost 4 miles a day in these with no pain in my feet. Like another reviewer, I had some numbness in my right foot after wearing these only a short time. I adjusted the laces as per that reviewer's advice and I was all set, no more numbness. I actually look forward to walking every day now!
