Portable Power Shape Ups are the ideal fitness equipment for the on-the-go, busy lifestyle. Wear them to and from the office, pack them in your suitcase, or keep them in your car for shopping trips. They are portable power in a small package. 3. A Brand You Trust There’s a lot to be said about familiarity and credibility. When buying SKECHERS, you know you are getting style and quality at a reasonable price. We’re a company you’ve trusted for more than 15 years. | The design technology behind Shape Ups changes the way you walk. As we move through our lives, we typically walk on hard surfaces, which places stress on our knee joints and lower back. People who are required to stand for their jobs feel the impact on their bodies the most, and don’t gain the benefits that come with all that activity. The goal with Shape Ups was to simulate walking on soft ground. SKECHERS has turned hard surfaces into comfortable ground through revolutionary technology designed into the framework of the shoe. The core of this technology is in the dynamic rolling bottom, the soft foam insert under the heel, and the dual-density midsole. These three elements work together to give you the feeling of walking on sand or luxurious pile carpet--regardless of the actual surface. Walking on softer, uneven surfaces forces you to engage muscles not normally used when walking on hard ground. Not only does this strengthen your muscles, but it also increases blood flow and reduces the impact on your joints and lower back. Designed to improve your life by changing the way you walk, Shape Ups feature a unique soft kinetic wedge insert and dynamic rolling bottom to simulate walking barefoot on a giving surface that gives such as sand. With the comfort of Shape Ups, you will feel your heel sink to the ground as you step, roll forward as your weight shifts to its center, and push off with your toes. This movement will result in stronger leg, buttock, back and abdominal muscles as you stabilize your steps. | Barefoot walking simulation on soft ground | -
The heel sinks comfortably into the soft ground as you step -
You naturally roll forward as your weight shifts to the center and your balance is centered -
Easily push off with your toe pads | Due to this unconventional manner of walking, we suggest you moderate your walking routine in Shape Ups for the first week or two (25 to 45 minutes per day), depending on your level of fitness. As you continue to wear your Shape Ups, your body will adjust to this new method of walking. You will find it easy and comfortable while still enjoying the strengthening and cardiovascular benefits. | | Get in the Routine 1. Kick Back: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight onto the back of the soft foam heel – hold for a count of five and then back to the center. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings. Repeat 5 to 10 times. 2. Rock and Roll: Stand upright and place feet parallel and hip distance apart, balance centered. Roll your weight forward so you are balancing on the underside of your toes – hold for a count of two, then slowly rock back to the soft heel – hold for a count of two, and then back to your center of balance. Do not lock knees or tip backward. Stretches calf and hamstrings, warms up Achilles and ankles. Repeat 5 to 10 times. 3. Roll and Rock and Roll: Follow the Rock and Roll stretch, but alternate feet so one is rolling to the toes and one is rocking back. Repeat 5 to 6 times. 4. The Lean: Place your hands on a wall, parallel and slightly above your head. With one leg in front of the other and your arms forward, press with your palms as if you were leaning on the wall. Keep your back leg straight and your front foot on the floor, then bend the front leg and lean forward by moving your hips toward the wall. Hold for a count of five, then repeat on the other side. Stretches calf and Achilles. Repeat 5 to 6 times. | | What's Inside Shape Ups? -

What fun shoes! July 29, 2010 Quilla (Southern California) I just got these last week and I really like them! I already own a pair of black and white Shape Up sneakers that I use on walks and I really liked them. I had noticed an improvement in my posture the first time I even tried them on, and walking in them was very comfortable (just a little heel rubbing at first). Since I'm on my feet all day as a teacher, I wanted some Shape Ups I could wear to work, which is why I got these Physical Mary Janes (in brown). So cute!!! From the top, they look like normal shoes. Very fashionable. They are quite comfortable except they are a little tight where they go over my big toe "knuckle." I presume that is a defect in my foot and not the shoe! (Though that is why I only gave four stars.) They are loosening up a bit though and are fine. I feel so much more support when I wear them. Really fun shoes...expensive, but I tend to think that it is important to have good quality footwear, especially if you are on your feet all day. With regard to whether they are good for exercise, well... I did feel SOME workout with the sneakers and maybe with the Mary Janes, but I wouldn't say it replaces working out. Of course, you are supposed to walk in a very certain way (comes with a DVD to show you). If I walk the way they instruct, I feel more burn. Bottom line is that I got them for posture and comfort and they work well for that.
LOVE MY SHAPE-UPS!!!! May 4, 2010 Ms. Carol A. Jenkins (Mission Viejo, CA, US) I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Shape-Ups! I own two pair; Mary Jane's for work, tennis shoes for all other time. Lost 2 dress sizes and all I did was add the shoes into the mix. VERY comfortable, run true to size. Just wish the Tone-Ups came in 1/2 sizes and I would own them too! I can't say enough good things about them, I have been responsible for 10 of my friends and family getting them also....no negative reports. I even bought a pair for my 11 year old daughter, expensive, but worth every penny.
Painful straps, cute video, cute shoes, I feel the burn! April 23, 2010 College Kid (USA) I have only had these for 2 days so far.
I really wanted a pair of shape ups. I just didn't want to spend 100 dollars on funny looking sneakers. I found this and thought they were so cute. Unfortunately no store around me had them in my size, I'm a 7. In stores I tried on the 6.5 a big too snug and the 7.5 was tremendous. I tried on the 7 in the regular sneakers and other version of the Mary Janes and they fit so I figured they would work. I ordered them directly from Shoes dot com instead of through Amazon.
I want to point out that although these are cute I don't think they are that comfortable to do the work out video in because of the straps. The platform and the inside of the shoe are very comfortable but when you do those ankle rolls and other movements the straps really pushed down on the bones in my foot.
Doing the video is great because they reminded me of stretches that really work and you don't feel so much tightness after working out in these.
Just walking from my car to the building I work in really cramped up my calves today! Yesterday when I used the video I didn't cramp up but I think that's because the video has great stretches.
My grandmother (who is about 67 yrs old, still young) loves these and wears them everywhere. I will probably just wear them to work and for walks.
I'd recommend these to people who have shape ups and are looking for something a little dressier to wear to work because I don't think you can really do all the movements in them that you do in shape ups, like I said the straps aren't completely comfortable but it's what makes them cuter than the other Mary Janes.
I'm not going to buy another pair of shape ups (yet) and I don't own another pair. I am still going to use these for walks but it's hard to do some of the work outs in the video they recommend.
I think they are really cute but I do have an odd taste of fashion (I wear tuxedo t-shirts and skeleton sweatshirts and I'm just odd) my dad laughed at them. I'm still wearing them and so far no one has given me dirty looks about them. My mom thinks they are cute!
Dressy yet casual! April 20, 2010 Chryssteena (Charlotte, NC) This is the 2nd pair of shape-ups that I've gotten. I got this shoe because of the obvious: it's suppose to tone up your lower body and help with your posture. I do notice the workout in my legs and bottom everyday that I wear them. I have chronic lower back problems and wearing these takes a HUGE amount of pressure off my lower back. I love them! They are very cute and stylish but slightly less comfy than their "sleek fitness walking shoe."
No Velcro Ever Again April 13, 2010 Anita R. (Dayton, OH, US) 1 out of 3 found this review helpful
The velcro on these shoes does not hold. My co-worker also purchased the same pair and had to have a shoe repairman put snaps on. I will never buy a velcro close shoe again. I am ready to donate mine to Goodwill.
