Perfect travel companion for peace-of-mind! July 14, 2010 A. Turner (Colorado) I LOVE this money belt! I bought it for my first trip to Europe and just pulled it out again for my second trip -- 16 years later! Even after 16 years, the clip is strong, the elastic has held up beautifully, and it's still completely comfortable. In Europe, I wear this belt almost constantly... even while sleeping on an overnight train or just sightseeing. But I have to laugh when I read the reviews of people saying it was awkward to essentially reach inside their pants to get money out and/or it got really uncomfortable stuffed with coins. Of course it would! The point of the money belt is to hold your most valuable items -- passport, credit card, and the majority of your cash (but not ALL of it). You keep a smaller amount of cash and all coins in a "normal" place like a wallet, pocket, or purse so you don't have to reach inside your pants to buy, say, a Metro ticket or a cup of espresso yet if you encounter a thief you aren't out a lot of money or spending a day at the embassy trying to replace your passport....
Not Recommended July 14, 2010 Suzanne (Sonora, CA) Though previous reviews led me to buy this for my husband for our Europe travels, he only used it once since the elastic strap sagged under his clothes. I will be returning this. I hate to be a name dropper, but my passport pouch from TravelSmith was/is an excellent choice.
satisfied July 9, 2010 sailor I used the money belt for three weeks in Europe and it worked fine. The only problem that I had with it was trying to get hold of the zippers so I tied a short piece of twine to the zipper and it worked better.
Cheap Strap and Buckle that doesn't stay secured May 26, 2010 Melissa H. Lee 2 out of 2 found this review helpful
I ordered this money belt with confidence after reading the reviews (4.5 stars with 44 reviews). I was disappointed when the money belt arrived. The pouch itself is great--it is a good size and well constructed. However the strap is really stretchy and cheap and the buckle is so flimsy and cheap. The strap doesn't actually stay tight in the buckle and needs to be secured with either a safety pin or a knot. It slips off VERY easily, not exactly the security most people are looking for when carrying their valuables.
I don't usually write reviews, but I felt that if I had read more reviews about the cheap straps and buckle, it would have prevented me from making this mistake. I'm really surprised how many people gave it such high marks...
Worked wonderfully!!! April 16, 2010 M. Landry (Somewhere in the United States...) I got used to having to unzip my shorts to pull money out.
That is the only 'negative' think I would have to say about this money belt...and that is not negative. You've got to do what you've got to do to keep your money and ID safe when you're overseas.
I did cut and tie a knot in the elastic that you put around your waist...because it was way too big...
This was perfect for my vacation overseas. :)
